A brief history

Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine USMF “Nicolae Testemiţanu” was created in 1975, and it was among the first specialized departments in the former USSR, initially for teaching the subject of Reanimathology and  Anesthesiology for students of  general medicine faculty, faculty of pediatrics and faculty of dentistry. The first Head of Department was Stanislav Poliuhov, Doctor of Medicine, Professor, who with its first employees Gh.Cazacu, A.Corcus, V.Rafulea, V.Ceban  put the base of the teaching process and  research.

In 1977 the specialization  in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine was included for  training specialists in anesthesiology, interns and doctors  and in the continuing postgraduate training of medical specialists, having trained over  1,000 specialists in the field by means of university  training and continuing postuniversity training.

During 1993-1997 the department was headed by PhD, Professor Vasile Grosu. Since 1993 has been included the  specialization in Anesthesiology and Reanimathology  in the postgraduate training of medical specialists by residency, that contributed to the foundation of a  new department in the Centre of Postgraduate Training at the University.

In1997, Boris Pîrgari Doctor of Medicine, Professor was appointed the  head of department. Later, in 2005, the departments were merged in order to unify and standardize postgraduate specialization and profiling.

On November 1, 2007, according to Order No. 449-A “on the reorganization of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine of FCMPhE  ” the Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine Department was split  in the  Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine No.1  for  students of the Faculty of General Medicine and  the  Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine No.2 for the post graduate  training at FCMPhE.

Since 2007 the Department of  Anaesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine No. 2  of the Centre of Postuniversity training has been working under the direction, University Professor, Doctor of Medicine, Academician of IAEHNS, Department of Disaster Management, Mr. Victor Cojocaru.
